Marvel is set to begin production on their two-part Infinity War films soon and as was expected, they’re going all out to bring in characters from all over the MCU to round out the cast. Anyone familiar with the comics that the plot of Infinity War is set to be cased off of will know that story brought together nearly every big player in the Marvel Universe to attempt to combat Thanos. While Marvel (Disney) doesn’t have the rights to some of the characters that appeared in the comic version, casting sheets and recent interviews with many of the MCU actors and actresses have given us a bit of a hint of who we can expect to see.
Fear not Avengers fans. All of “Earths Mightiest Heroes” will be coming back for at least one more go around. While the end of Captain America: Civil War may have left our heroes divided along ideological lines, it looks like they will be able to bury the hatchet to protect not only earth but all of time and space. Robert Downey Jr., Scarlet Johansson, Chris Evans, Mark Ruffalo, Elisabeth Olsen, Paul Rudd, Sebastian Stan, Chris Hemsworth, Paul Bettany, Chadwick Boseman, Jeremy Renner and Samuel L. Jackson will all be reprising their roles. It will be interesting to see how they are able to coexist.
Much like the Avengers, the whole team from Guardians of the Galaxy will be back. Interestingly, Karen Gillian (Nebula) will also be making an appearance. With Guardians Vol. 2 set to come out later this year, we’ll have to wait and see what side she’s on and if we are introduced to any new characters that could be teaming up with our heroes. The Guardians are the only characters in the MCU, so far, that are aware of Thanos, as both Nebula and Gamora are his daughters. They are also, seem to understand what the Infinity Stones are. Not to get into Spoiler territory, but certain characters from the Guardians comics play a pretty big role in the comic Infinity Gauntlet story and could have an equally important role in the films.
Old Faces and New Characters
Rumors have been swirling regarding casting in recent weeks, but there have been a few confirmations. We know that Brie Larson will be making her MCU debut as Captain Marvel before getting her own stand-alone film in 2019. According to an interview Tom Holland gave recently, he’ll be making an appearance as Spider-Man as well. Benedikt Cumberbatch, coming off the success of the solo Doctor Strange film last year will add a touch of magic to the already loaded casts. One name that has popped up recently as a potential returning character is Liv Tyler’s Betty Ross. Ross hasn’t been seen in the MCU since 2008’s The Incredible Hulk, but William Hurt’s reprisal of General Ross in Captain America: Civil War has many Hulk fans thinking that Bruce Banner’s true love may return. Peter Dinklage has also recently been rumored to be in talks to appear, but no word yet on which character he’d be playing.
There are still a number of MCU films (Guradians of the Galaxy Vol. 2, Spider-Man: Homecoming, Thor: Ragnarok and Black Panther) to come before we get to Infinity War so new characters could potentially be added between now and then. I’d personally like to see Evangeline Lilly (Hope van Dyne/Wasp) and/or some of the characters from Thor’s films pop up as well, but we’ll have to wait and see.
Are you excited? Who would you like to see join the Infinity War?
